Worship is derived from an old English word "weorthscipe" which means to ascribe worth unto a being or object.
Reverent love and devotion for a deity or sacred object. To honor and to love. The act of worship means developing a set of values and determining what ones desire most. It means choosing priorities and establishing what comes first in his life. Four Requirements of the true worshiper: (Hebrews 10:22) "Let us go right into the presence of God with sincere hearts fully trusting Him. For our guilty consciences have been sprinkled with Christ's blood to make us clean, and our bodies have been washed with pure water." 1. A True Heart (Proverbs 4:23) The heart is the main part of a man's nature. As the heart is, so is the man. God does not look upon outward appearance and skills, but upon the heart. (1 Samuel 16:7) God hates the heart that is hard, unbelieving and rebellious. God wants a true heart. 2. Fullness of Faith (James 2:17) A good way to translate faith is obedience. And faith that is not expressed through obedience is dead. Faith is a great importance in worship. The attitude of Saul in 1 Samuel Chapter 15 illustrates how he substituted obedience with sacrifice. He did not come in fullness of faith, he came pleasing himself. (1 Samuel 15:22). 3. A Sprinkled Heart Back in the Old Testament type of worship, the priest would sprinkle the blood of the sacrifice as he made entry into God's presence inside the tabernacle. Today, the blood of Jesus Christ cleanses the worshiper from sin and his worship is being acceptable to God. 4. A Body Washed (Romans 12:1) People's lives must not only be justified by the blood of Christ, but also sanctified by the pure washing of the word. Psalms 24:3-4 "Ask who shall stand in the holy place? He that has clean hands and pure heart.
