As a member of the worship team, we must consider many factors to improve our role as a worship minister in our church. Basically we must consider the following points:
1. Spiritual Maturity (Ephesians 5:1-20) As stated, this is a leadership type ministry hence, is ordinarily not a place for new or immature Christians. Our spiritual preparation has a direct effect in our effectiveness as a worship minister. We need to come ready not only to sing and play music but to worship the King and minister to His people. The only way to be an effective worship leader is to maintain a close relationship with the Lord through his word. (Joshua 1:8) 2. Musical Expertise (Psalm 33:3, 1 Chronicles 15:22) The musicians and singers need to be skilled enough to follow a service which is "led by God". We don't want to limit what God will do simply because we can't handle it musically. We need to work out our instrumental and vocal ability to become the very best we can be. This means a great deal of individual practice (maybe even lessons) as well as playing with the team. Keep in mind that the team will only be as musically proficient as the individuals that make it up. 3. Time Commitment Practice sessions, Sunday and Saturday preparation and ministry are mandatory. In addition, there are seminars, special retreats and events, and more. Involvement in this ministry needs to take a high priority in your life next to your family and work. 4. Ability to flow with the team Some people are very gifted musicians, and or vocalists, but for one reason or another (vocal range, musical style, etc.) they have trouble in flowing with the team. These individuals are highly encouraged to share their musical gifts in other ways (special music, choir, small groups, etc.) We need to look at our team as not just a collection of separate musicians and singers but as a single unit with a single purpose. Our heart attitude should not be to shine forth our own technical skills but to use that skill to enhance the team as a whole.

Worship is derived from an old English word "weorthscipe" which means to ascribe worth unto a being or object.
Reverent love and devotion for a deity or sacred object. To honor and to love. The act of worship means developing a set of values and determining what ones desire most. It means choosing priorities and establishing what comes first in his life. Four Requirements of the true worshiper: (Hebrews 10:22) "Let us go right into the presence of God with sincere hearts fully trusting Him. For our guilty consciences have been sprinkled with Christ's blood to make us clean, and our bodies have been washed with pure water." 1. A True Heart (Proverbs 4:23) The heart is the main part of a man's nature. As the heart is, so is the man. God does not look upon outward appearance and skills, but upon the heart. (1 Samuel 16:7) God hates the heart that is hard, unbelieving and rebellious. God wants a true heart. 2. Fullness of Faith (James 2:17) A good way to translate faith is obedience. And faith that is not expressed through obedience is dead. Faith is a great importance in worship. The attitude of Saul in 1 Samuel Chapter 15 illustrates how he substituted obedience with sacrifice. He did not come in fullness of faith, he came pleasing himself. (1 Samuel 15:22). 3. A Sprinkled Heart Back in the Old Testament type of worship, the priest would sprinkle the blood of the sacrifice as he made entry into God's presence inside the tabernacle. Today, the blood of Jesus Christ cleanses the worshiper from sin and his worship is being acceptable to God. 4. A Body Washed (Romans 12:1) People's lives must not only be justified by the blood of Christ, but also sanctified by the pure washing of the word. Psalms 24:3-4 "Ask who shall stand in the holy place? He that has clean hands and pure heart. |
